Worship & Music

The people of Market Street shared their love, time and efforts in various ways to provide us with meaningful worship in 2002. The two worship services alone each Sunday require over 1,000 positions of responsibility for one year!

The committee's areas of responsibility include:

  • coordinating the program of Lay Readers for services, including recruiting and scheduling

  • coordinating the work of the ushers, including recruiting captains and establishing guidelines for ushering during services

  • coordinating the work of the Sanctuary Guild, including recruiting, training, and determination of the work to be done

  • coordinating the serving of Communion by elders, including scheduling, training, and coordination immediately prior to the worship services

  • coordinating chancel flowers and seasonal decorations with the church office

The Market Street Music Series continues to bring interesting and varied talent to our concerts.
Concerts in 2002 included The Super Bowl Concert presented by the Lima Chapter of the American Guild of Organists; the Heart of Market Street vocal quartet; organist C.J. Sambach; the Strings of Choice string quartet; the Kettering Banjo Society; and organist Steven Fischer.

The members of the Chancel Choir give up much of their time with a great deal of dedication to the music program of the church. The year was full of many wonderful and varied musical events at Market Street Church. The Chancel Choir continued to sing at nearly every 11:00 am service, except during the summer months. The Children's Choirs continue to add to the worship experience at least once every six weeks.
We are very fortunate to have secured the services of Marilyn Frueh as our director of children's and youth music.
Once again we would like to thank Dwane Grace for his sustained excellence throughout the year.
The Adult Music Ministry includes the Chancel Choir, Market Street 4, Jubilate Singers, and Laudate Cantare. Music at the 8:30 am service continues to be a vital part of the church's musical offerings featuring the music staff, members of the Chancel Choir, the Men's Quartet and ONU students.

Special music was presented on Maundy Thursday with Hal Hopson's Tenebrae Service featuring soloists, string quartet, oboe and organ; Palm Sunday, Easter with brass; special Advent music with ONU students and Marilyn Frueh; and Christmas Eve with all of the adult ensembles.

With a most appreciative congregation and a very supportive church staff, music will continue to be a vital part of our worship at Market Street Presbyterian Church.
