Local mission needs continue to be the main focus of the Mission Committee. Our continuing ministries
are: |
|
Soup Kitchens. Over 27 of our members serve at two different sites.
Habitat for Humanity. We have 20 families who are a part of Habitat's Club 1000 - a
primary fund raising program. These members support Habitat with a monthly commitment.
|
Covenant Ministries, with Bill Noble as our representative on the board.
Grampy's House. They provide a safe, neutral alternative to unsupervised family visits
referred by the courts, attorneys, social and child care workers, clergy or mental health professionals.
|
|
We supported three special offerings of the Presbyterian Church: One Great Hour of Sharing, the
Peacemaking Offering, and the Christmas Joy Offering.
Four Head Start classes meet in our building daily during the school year. We also house the
offices for Habitat for Humanity. The Covenant Ministries and Grampy's House are in church-owned homes.
In addition, MSPC continues to furnish many local groups with a meeting place. This is a wonderful ministry to
our community.

Mission Trip 2002 - David, Kentucky
This year we joined with others from 6 of the 7 work colleges in the U.S. at the David School in
David, KY. Some of the projects we worked on were: building a shed; staining a large deck; separating and
burning debris from an old school building; cleaning out an old school bus that had been used for storage;
weeding, edging and planting many packets of seeds and a number of plants in several hundred feet of flower
beds around the facility; and cooking for about 35 or so folks each day. Another project was spending
hours mowing, weed whacking and clearing grass from a ball field. In the evenings, we learned
about the history of the David School and the coal mining town of David, and played bingo and took a short
trip to visit the Jenny Wiley State Park. One of the most rewarding things we did was spend time with the
townspeople and students -- playing softball and learning line, folk, and square dancing with them. We all
enjoyed the week, and felt that we made a real contribution that will be maintained. And we thank our
congregation for the prayers, donations of dish towels, financial gifts and of course the cookies and muffins!
