WELCOME TO MARKET STREET CHURCH
Someone once wrote “It is the best of times, it is the worst of times” and I believe that is still true today. As we struggle to balance too many balls in the air, trying to fill and maximize our lives, we begin to sense that we need something more than chaotic calendars and over worked weekends. We keep adding activities, seek new places to connect, always trying to make life relevant. We have an inner hunger to matter and feel that life should be more than just making money and keeping up with the Jones. Our inner hunger goes unfilled, unless we turn to Jesus Christ who fills that inner hunger and truly maximizes life so that our lives not only matter but are significant.
MARKET STREET EXTRA
Pastor Susan Reichenberg
We’ve been reading many books together to help us lead this church, Market Street Presbyterian Church into this century and this generation.
I came across this quote and felt it worth sharing:
A LIVELY church has lots of ‘noisy’ children and young people;
a dead church is fairly quiet.
A LIVELY church often changes the way things are done;
a dead church doesn’t have to.
A LIVELY church often asks for more program and mission money;
a dead church has a plenty of money for what it does.
A LIVELY church asks people to open up and risk involvement;
a dead church plays it safe and never risks.
A LIVELY church sees challenges and opportunities;
a dead church sees problems and dangers.
A LIVELY church apologizes, forgives and seeks forgiveness;
a dead church never makes mistakes.
A LIVELY church uses its tradition and facilities to serve people;
a dead church uses people to preserve facilities and traditions.
A LIVELY church believes in God’s future and ‘let’s go’ with faith;
a dead church believes in the past and ‘holds on.’
A LIVELY church is filled with committed givers;
a dead church is filled with tippers.
A LIVELY church dares to dream great dreams for God’s Kingdom;
a dead church has nightmares.
“Now then, what about our church?” First Congregational Church, Winchester, MA.
So says the First Congregational Church, but what do we say? It bears thinking on I believe as there is so much truth here. Living, thriving churches put others first and believe that the church is God’s church and we are privileged to worship there. How do you see Market Street Presbyterian Church? Hopefully you see it as
A LIVELY church is seen. Let’s put it to work!!
Blessings,
Pastor Susan Reichenberg
